When kids follow their own interests, they’re much more likely to be engaged in the process. Their curiosity is ignited, and they may take their interests to a whole new level—for example, the simple act of shaking a toy can teach them about motion, cause and effect. Or, they might notice a bird in the backyard and start researching the species online or in books. Some of these interests will fade, and others might turn into a lifelong passion.
What is learning center in early childhood classroom?
Child led learning is not a new concept—in fact, it has been used in education for quite some time. However, this form of learning is becoming more common in Childcare Bracken Ridge settings and even some schools where it is offered as a alternative to a traditional curriculum. The teacher or parent in this setting will still provide options and guidance, but they allow the student to steer their material and lessons in a specific direction.
In addition, this learning model also allows for more hands on activities that engage the senses and encourage problem solving. This allows for more flexibility and less pressure to hit traditional milestones; the goal is to build a strong love of learning through self-directed exploration.
It is important to note that this approach can be a difficult transition for some children, especially those who thrive on structure and order. As a result, it’s best to ease your children into this type of learning and be patient as they find their groove.
