Nubra Ladakh

Smt. Tsewang Dolma, president LBA women wing, Nubra presided over a seminar on My Culture-My Heritage organized by Himalayan Cultural Heritage Foundation (HCHF) in collaboration with Govt. Degree collage, Nubra on 20th October, 2016. My Culture-My Heritage is a youth oriented project initiated by HCHF to impart heritage education to school and college students through different activities. The day-long seminar was attended by scholars, guests and students. The seminar was financially supported by Jammu and Kashmir Academy of Arts, Languages and Culture. The seminar began with a welcome song by the students of Govt. Degree College Nubra and it was followed by presentations by the experts and students on different topics. While introducing the programme “my culture-my heritage” Dr Sonam Wangchok, secretary HCHF elucidated the values of both tangible and intangible heritage through a detailed PowerPoint presentation. State awardees Shri Urgyan Rigzin presented a paper on “Heritage Sites in the Nubra valley”. In his presentation Rigzin highlighted the history and significance of major heritage sites in the Nubra valley. Degree College students Hajira, Kaniz, Sultan, Manzoor and Baqir presented a paper on “Tareekhi Masjid- Amir Kabir Shahamdan Tyaksi”. It was followed by a PowerPoint presentation on “heritage sites of Diskit Nubra” by Stanzin Paljor. In the second session Stanzin Lhamo from Degree College presented on “Architectural Significance of Diskit Zimskhang”. Dr Konchok Paldan, Lecturer Degree College presented on “The Mancho Community, occupation and legacy of Ragas”. A documentary film “Drums of Himalaya” was also screened. In the concluding remarks the Principal Degree College Prof. Tsewang Mutup expressed happiness over the outcome of the seminar and said, “the presentations and discussions benefit the students immensely in understanding the significance and value of cultural heritage”. The chief guest Smt. Tsewang Dolma appreciated HCHF and Govt. Degree College for organizing the seminar, especially for the benefit of students. She said, “Students participation in such seminar is very important because they are the future of Ladakh and they will be shouldering the responsibility of preserving our culture and identity”. A field trip to the heritage sites in Diskit Nubra was also organized on the previous days.
